Our latest YAKSS session was led by Jana Markovikj, our QA Engineer, who brought a fresh perspective to how we think about testing - not just as a technical checkpoint, but as a driver of alignment, focus and measurable impact.
In her session, Jana presented her paper “OKRs for Your Tests: Elevate Your Approach to Test Design”, which she also shared at the SEETEST Conference 2025, where it earned the Best Paper Certificate. This recognition highlights not only the quality of her work, but also the growing importance of applying objectives and key results for QA, as well as OKRs in Software Testing to connect testing with broader business objectives.
From Testing Metrics to Business Goals
Jana’s talk explored how Objectives and Key Results (OKRs), a well known goal setting framework used across product and engineering teams, can also transform the way quality assurance teams operate.
By defining clear objectives and linking them to measurable results, testing moves beyond traditional metrics like bug counts or test coverage and starts contributing directly to organizational success. This shift toward outcome based testing helps teams focus on delivering value rather than just completing tasks.
Instead of asking “Are we testing enough?” Jana encouraged us to ask “Are we testing what really matters?”
A Framework for Meaningful Quality
Through real examples and practical insights, she showed how QA can:
- align testing priorities with company and product goals using OKRs for quality assurance teams;
- measure progress through meaningful, outcome driven metrics;
- build stronger collaboration between QA, development and product teams;
- create transparency and accountability across the quality process.
Moreover, Jana shared several QA OKR examples to illustrate how this framework can be implemented in day to day workflows - from improving test coverage in critical areas to increasing automation effectiveness and reducing feedback loops. This approach helps teams see testing as a strategic enabler, not just a validation step, a shift that turns QA into a key partner in driving value and continuous improvement.
We’re proud that Jana’s work has been recognized on an international stage at SEETEST and even prouder to have her share that knowledge within our own team. Her talk was a perfect example of how structured thinking and purpose driven frameworks can elevate everyday processes into impactful strategies.
